Ajaw Lolmet

Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 257n760), translates the second lord of the Ajaw K'iche', Ajaw Lolmet, as "Lord Emissary," noting elsewhere (n745) that "Lolmet (or Lolmay) is an 'emissary or ambassador.'" K'iche' scholar Sam Colop (2008: 195n333), following Adrián Recinos, links the lord with tax or tribute collection functions with K'iche' society. Because the authors of the Popol Wuj call him "Lolmet Ajaw" and "Ajaw Lolmet" interchangeably, Christenson follows suit with "Emissary Lord" and "Lord Emissary."
