Ajaw Nim Ch'okoj

The third of the four great houses of the Ajaw K'iche'. The first two are Ajtzik Winaq Ajaw (Heraldo Lord) and Lolmet Ajaw (Emissary Lord). Ajaw Nim Ch'okoj, defined by anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 304) as "Great Steward Lord", take their name from the authors of the Popol Wuj, nim ch'okoj, or "Great Stewards" of what Christenson calls (n889) "the three principal Quiché lineages" who "identify themselves here as the authors of the 'word,' likely the Popol Vuh manuscript itself."
