Oxib' ri nim ja

Three family lines represent the Three Great Houses of the Popol Wuj: Kaweq, Ajaw K'iche', Nija'ib', each of which sends an author to record the text according to their own particular histories. Each linage goes on to have its own sublineages and royal houses. Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: n721) observes that "Nim Ja (Great House) may refer to both a large building or palace, as well as the lineage to which it was dedicated. In this case, the reference is to the lineage, since the three great houses were quartered in only two buildings. This is where administrative and judicial decisions were made for each of the major lineages. The Popol Vuh mentions that the negotiation of bride exchange in particular took place in the great houses. The great houses likely also served as the residences for the lineage heads as well as the repositories for the tokens of authority brought from Tulan."

Las tres casas grandes representan los linajes principales del Popol Wuj: los Kaweq, Ajaw K'iche' y Nija'ib'. Cada casa real aquí señalado contribuye un nim chok'oj o historiador-escribano quien relata la historia del libro conforme a su propia interpretación nacional y cultural. Cabe notar que cada linaje también tiene sus propias casas reales y linajes. Según apunta el antropólogo Allen J. Christenson (2007: nota 721), el uso de "casa grande" para hablar del poder polítco es otro ejemplo de las prácticas metonómicas en la narrativa maya k'iche'.
