Kikab' (gen. 10)

Los traductores e investigadores ofrecen diferentes interpretaciones del significado del nombre de Kikab', el líder de la décima generación del linaje Kaweq. El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 199n340) afirma que "Tradicionalmente ... se ha escribo como Kikab pero puede leerse como K'ikab, literalmente 'el de mucha dulzura'; K'iqab, 'el de muchas manos', como traduce Tedlock (1996: 324); Kik'ab 'sangres' como interpreta (Edmonson 1971: 234). Edmonson, además, sugiere que puede derivar del mam kikap que corresponde al día No'j del calendario maya" (Colop 2008: 199n340). En cambio, el autor guatelmateco Adrián Recinos (2012: 179fn44) afirma que Quicab quiere decir "de muchos brazos, interpreta Ximénez. Puede ser el de las manos de fuego."​

Anthropologists Allen J. Christenson (2007: 277n775) and Dennis Tedlock (1996: 324, cited by Colop, above) agree that the translation of K'ikab's name is "Many Hands" or "He of Many Hands." Earlier scholars, including Munro Edmonson (1971: 234) and Adrián Recinos (2012: 179n44) suggested connections with blood and fire, the latter based on Recinos's reading of Ximénez's original manuscript. Edmonson also suggests that the name may be derived from the Mam language, wherein kikap corresponds to the No'j day sign on the traditional Mayan calendar (Colop 2008: 199n340). This Kikab' is the leader of the tenth generation of the Kaweq lineage.
