Ixim

El cultivo del maíz es, tal vez, el elemento más importante de la narrativa k'iche', ya que la agricultura representa la perfecta intersección del tiempo cosmíco y cíclico con las lluvias del cielo, la tierra del mundo y la intervención laboral del hombre y la mujer. Perhaps the central defining element of the Popol Wuj is the development of maize agriculture. The K'iche' authors use a variety of terms to represent maize, from the general category of ixim (maize) to specific forms of the cornplant, like jal (cob, ripe ear of maize), aj (unripe ear of maize), and wa (tortilla, often translated into Spanish as "comida"/food by Dominican friar Francisco de Ximénez).
