Rati't Saq

En la larga lista de los nombres alternativos de las deidades Xpiyakok e Ixmukane, Rati't Saq ("abuela de la claridad" en la traducción española del lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop [2008: 35]), aparece en el decimosexto y penúltimo lugar, inmediatamente antes de la invocación de su par, Rati't Q'ij ("abuela del Sol"). Cabe señalar que "saq" en K'iche' quiere decir "blanco," por lo tanto Colop lo traduce como "claridad" y Ximénez, tal vez pensando en el equilibrio con el sol, pone el nombre como "luna." En cambio con otros nombres de la lista que se refieren a las dos deidades, Rati't Q'ij y Rati't Saq son sinónimos para Ixmukane. De esta manera la lista termina con una doble invocación de la abuela.

In the long list of alternate names for creator deities Xpiyakok and Ixmukane, Rati't Saq ("Grandmother of Light" in the translation by anthropologist Allen J. Christenson [2007: 80]) appears in the sixteenth and penultimate position, immediately before the invocation of their pair, Rati't Q'ij ("Grandmother of Day"). It is worth noting that "saq" means "white," which creates some ambiguity for translators. Whereas K'iche' linguist Sam Colop (2008: 35) and anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 80) render it as "claridad" (clarity/light) and "Light," Dominican friar Francisco de Ximénez, perhaps inspired by complimentarity seen elsewhere in the K'iche' story, translates the name as "luna" (moon). Unlike the other pairs named in the list, both Rati't Q'ij and Rati't Saq are synonyms for Ixmukane, such that the list concludes with a double invocation of the grandmother.
