Q'oq

Q'oq (chilacayote) aparece en varios momentos del Popol Wuj, sobre todo en conexión con el engaño de los señores de Xib'alb'a por los dos muchachos. Afirma el lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 18) que la mala traducción de la voz k'iche' q'oq' ha resultado en un sinfín de malas interpretaciones en español, pues desde el padre dominico Francisco de Ximénez hasta los traductores modernos como Adrián Recinos, se ha confundido q'oq' (chilacayote) con kok (tortuga). Escribe el investigador: "se habla de un chilacayote en la reconstrucción de la cabeza de Junajpú y no de una tortuga."
