Errores copistas: Nima K'amja Nija'ib

En la lista de los oficios importantes del linaje Nija'ib, se observa dos errores de transcripción del manuscrito del padre Francisco de Ximénez. En el primer caso (51r), se omite en la traducción española el nombre del título Nima K'amja, pues la lista pasa de Q'alel K'amja a Uchuch K'amja, mientras la lista en k'iche' es completa. En el segundo caso (56r), se repite en k'iche' y español el nombre del título Nima K'amja en la cuarta y sexta casa grande de los Nija'ib. El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 216-7n399-400) afirma que el oficio correcto del sexto lugar debe ser Nima Lolmet Ye'oltux.

En su conjunto estos pasajes son ya otros momentos en los cuales observamos una notable diferencia en el texto k'iche' y la traducción española. Se supone que fue un error copista, no obstante el resultado es que el lector hispanófono no entiede bien la estructura y organización del sistema política del linaje Nija'ib.

In the list of important offices within the Nija'ib lineage, here we observe one of two transcription errors preserved in the original manuscript, copied by Francisco de Ximénez. In the first case (51r), Ximénez miscopies the list of offices. Whereas the K'iche' column correctly places Nima K'amja between Q'alel K'amja and Uchuch K'amja, the Spanish column omits Nima K'amja's name. In the second case (56r), both the K'iche' and Spanish columns repeat the name Nima K'amja in the 4th and 6th large houses of the Nija'ib. K'iche' linguist Sam Colop (2008: 216-7n399-400) argues that Nima Lolmet Ye'oltux should be listed in the sixth position.

This is, by all accounts, a scribal error, but it is one that has a real effect upon the ways in which readers of the Spanish text understand the structure and organization of Nija'ib politics. Taken together, they provide evidence of additional moments of divergence between the Spanish and K'iche' versions of the Popol Wuj prepared by father Ximénez.
