B'elejeb' Kej

El lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 216n396) traduce el nombre del líder B'elejeb' Kej como "nueve venado", uno de los nombres del calendario maya.

Anthropologist Allen J. Christenson (2007: 301n873) notes that B'elejeb' Kej or "Nine Deer" is one of the days "on the traditional 260 day calendar." Elsewhere in the text, Christenson (2007: 276n719) suggests that the practice of naming leaders according to their calendar signs indicates that this was "likely the day on which he was born." It may also explain why leaders of future generations of K'iche' rulers carry the same name.
