Julisnab'

Julisnab' is one of the mountains created by Zipacna. According to Mayanist scholar Allen J. Christenson (2007: 96n176), "the identity of this mountain is unknown." The linguist Munro S. Edmondson (1971: 36n938) "identifies it with Tajumulco, a volcano in the district of Huehuetenango, Guatemala."

For his part, K’iche’ linguist Sam Colop (2008: 46fn56) observes that, “Julisnab may be that which was formerly the Almolonga volcano. It was destroyed millions of years ago; geologically there is only a ‘hole’ left where the town of Almolonga, Quetzaltenango, is currently located, as the word jul textually implied in the K’cihe’ text. Is literally means ‘hairs’ and at the same time can be understood as ‘sprouts’ and nab which, according to Basseta, is neb and which means ‘to row or pile,’ which is suggestive of the row of hills or ‘sprouts’ which are found surrounding what formerly would have been the Almolonga volcano

Por su parte el lingüista k'iche' Sam Colop (2008: 46fn56) observa que "Julisnab puede ser el que antiguamente fue el volcán de Almolonga, destruido hace miles de años y del cual geológicamente sólo queda un 'agujero' donde actualmente se ubica el pueblo de Almolonga, Quetzaltenango, como textualmente implica la palabra jul en el texto k'iche'. Is literalmente quiere decir 'pelos' y a la vez puede entenderse como 'retoños' y nab que conforme a Basseta es neb y que significa 'poner en ringleras o amontonar', lo cual concuerda con la fila de cerros o 'retoños' que se encuentran alrededor de lo que antiguamente habría sido el volcán de Almolonga."
